Anita actually sent me this link, but it is amazing. Buzzfeed made a list of the 45 most powerful images of 2011. So many of these pictures are inspiring. I was talking to Juliana and Kelsey and these pictures made us want to write plays. Particularly for me the pictures of people being pepper sprayed during occupy movements spoke to me. It was the apathetic looks on the police officers faces while they are injuring non-violent protestors that truly lit the fire under my butt and make me wants to write a play about this. On top of these photos being inspirational they are beautiful as well. Take a look at them, you never know what will spark your interest.
45 MOST POWERFUL IMAGES
These are so awesome! They are so powerful, I know what you mean about them just making you want to write plays.
ReplyDeleteWhich one sparked your interest the most?
ReplyDeleteI loved so many of them but I'd say the ones that were the most powerful for me were number 12, the Christians protecting Muslims during prayer, and number 33, the woman crying in the street surrounded by the destruction from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
ReplyDeleteNature is all at once more powerful and beautiful than anything that man can come up with. The tornado left absolutely nothing but the ability to see the horizon behind it. That volcanic eruption photo is mind-blowing. The lightning coming up out of the ash cloud is amazing...
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree with Jenna on the man and his dog. There are instances of military canine trainers being killed in combat and their dogs following them right into death. I would not have been surprised if that dog had just lain right down on that floor and died. The loyalty, devotion and just sincerest form of love is best expressed by the relationship between a man and his dog. So, I'd just like to take this opportunity to point out to all the cat-lovers, "Dogs are better than cats!"
Yeah, I agree with all of you. There was something so moving about the people in these pictures to me. How they relate to each other, to the after life, and the things that people do for random strangers in a hectic time gave me some hope for humanity. One of the others pictures that really got to me was the Japanese bride trying to commit suicide after her fiance decided he wasn't ready to get married. The fact that that many people were right there ready to catch her was amazing. But, what is even crazier to me is that, she felt that was the right move. Is it cultural difference? Does she feel shameful, or like it is her fault? I want to know her story. She is tragically beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way about the Japanese bride, I wondered what it was that drove her to that. It is so amazing though that someone was able to catch her in time and that there were so many people there to save her
